L.A. Times Enhances ’24-Hour News Desk’

By: Mike Boland 25 January 2007

Following in the footsteps of The New York Times, The Washington Post and USA Today, the Los Angeles Times will bring its print and online newsrooms closer together in order to have better around-the-clock coverage.

This could improve Internet content by giving print editors oversight of the online editorial product. It could also add a dynamic element to the paper’s ability to cover breaking news around the clock and a standardized process for getting content on the Web faster.

This reflects a new “break it on the Web, expand on it in print” philosophy, the paper’s editor, Jim O’Shea, told The San Jose Mercury News. It will also involve a new RSS tool called MyLATimes (my.latimes.com), which will further help readers get breaking headlines delivered to their desktops in a dynamic fashion.
