Local Gets Some Love at TC50

By: Mike Boland 16 September 2009

The TC50 has concluded and the winners announced. Best in show went to RedBeacon, a local search start-up that I missed on Monday. More on that in a minute.

The start-up competition has only been around for a few years, but this is the first time local search companies got so much play. They had their own category during Monday’s demo sessions and there were decidedly more of them present than last year.

Indeed, RedBeacon not only took top honors but CitySourced, profiled here earlier, took third place and local search engine Yext got an audience favorite award. This is a top tech event and is starting to be recognized on a wider scale as such.

Congrats to RedBeacon, which gets $50K in seed money and a whole lot of recognition. Now the hard part begins. I’ve reached out to the company for a briefing and will report back ASAP. In the meantime, see the TechCrunch writeup and video of the company’s demo.
